Ok, so it was brought up a while back that the logo Kratheous made for the new theme sucks. Glad I'm not the only person that dislikes it.31 comments | Write Comment
Now, your mission if you choose to accept it? Make a good logo. It does not have to include the Klingon Blade font.
Due to a shift in employment and issues with a low paycheck as a result, the hosting bill will not be payable on time this month. As a result, the host will most likely be shut off temporarily. I will be paying the bill on Thursday, 10 October, at which point the server should come back online. Due to money management becoming the wife's job as of that day, this will not become an issue again. I apologize for this, but I had to prioritize my bills and pay the essentials first.9 comments | Write Comment
I have discovered a large number of accounts from a certain number of IP addresses. I am denying access at the host level from IPs that are doing this, as I perceive this to be some form of dos attack. The culprits appear to be loading up the registration page itself and registering a cruiser ship load of accounts at a time. This explains the number of emails the server has been sending me when SMF can't connect to the db, as well. Hopefully this will be addresed and be done with, versus this being a long and dragged out grudge match of some sort. I'll let everyone know when I'm done, and no, I will not have a number of accounts being pruned.3 comments | Write Comment
Making an ass out of myself by assuming the techs at my host automagically update my server software without me talking to them.1 comment | Write Comment
I've had my phone blown up for about 2 weeks now because SMF has been having troubles connecting to the database. Since that's where all the data is stored, this is obviously a bad thing. So I started poking around my over 2.5 year old emails trying to get access to certain things, I discovered I can have the server automatically update, or I can do it manually. I'm not a fan of automatic updates.
So to be clear, GU will be spotty on the connection for a bit while I get the server up to date and I discover what I can do about whatever is causing the db connection issues.
It has come to my attention that this past Saturday, 20 July 2013, a number of websites, using differing BBSes, were attacked and the userbase databases stolen. I am only aware of ubuntuforums.org and simplemachines.org thus far, but I dn't really travel far.8 comments | Write Comment
My suggestion: change any and all passwords you use on any emai accounts and websites, especially on those that share the same password. I've changed mine here, and I've got my email accounts locked down, but that doesn't guarantee anything. We'd know by now if GU was hit, but it can't hurt to include this site in your sweep.
