SmartCard 64M Menu
Programmed By: MottZilla

I programmed this menu from scratch primarily to add save data management to the very nice 64M GB USB SmartCard. One of the glaring issues with the card was the inability to have more than 1 save game on the card at a time. My menu divides the SRAM memory into blocks and automatically handles saving and loading for you. If there isn't enough memory to save you'll be notified to use the SRAM Manager feature to free up space. Also the menu features a currently small database that can warn you if a game you are about to play is known to need a fix to play properly.

Getting Started:
Select your game as you normally would in the flasher program. Keep in mind that you can only put Non-Color games or Color-Compatible games on each of your 32M ROM Pages. So you may want to put all your Non-Color games on one page, and put your Color games on the second page. Just remember you can't mix them in one page. And you need to check the Color box in the flasher GUI if you're putting Color-Compatible games on the ROM Page.

Once you have flashed your cartridge you should use the SRAM Manager by pressing Select on the first screen. Your memory probably contain random data so you'll need to delete all the garbage entries. There are 11 Blocks to clear. Just leave the cursor at the top of the list and continue deleting 11 times. Once you've erased all 11 Blocks you are ready to start playing games. When you play any game that saves data the menu will automatically load and save data. You will only be prompted if it runs out of free Blocks and needs to save a new game.

General Notes:
Most games use 1 Block of memory to save. But some games use 4 Blocks such as Pokemon and Wario Land 2. In the future I may provide a tool to help you extract and insert memory Blocks from an extracted .SAV file from your cartridge. Until then you may just have to backup your entire memory to a .SAV file if you need more room for all your save game data.

If you have a ROM Page with only one game and no menu you should be aware that if that game uses save data backup that it could overwrite or otherwise erase your save data. Whenever you play a game that saves data the next time the menu executes it automatically will backup data based on what the menu believes was last played, however if you have run a game without the menu it may have changed the save data and cause the wrong data to be backed up for the last game played with the menu. I advise against loading any single game to a ROM Page if it saves data if you are planning on using the menu because of this conflict.

Game Requires Fix Warnings:
The menu will do a check when you start a game to see if the game you are about to play is known to not run properly on the SmartCard without a fix. Myself and others have issued patches to fix a small number of games which do not work with the SmartCard. I will update this database within the menu if more games are discovered to need a fix to function properly. If you get a message that a fix may be required to play the game, you may want to look to see if a fix is available. It is possible this warning might be a false alarm, but take it under advisement.
